FM 24-70 – Key Safety Tips from the Operating Manual

Operator Fitness & Authorisation Only trained, fit adults should operate the machine. Do not use it if you are physically tired, ill, or have consumed alcohol, drugs, or anything else that impairs judgement. Children must never operate or be near the machine while it is in use.

Personal Protective Equipment Always wear appropriate work clothing including long trousers, safety shoes with non-slip soles, and hearing protection. Do not wear loose items such as scarves, necklaces, bracelets, or clothing with pendants that could become entangled. Tie back long hair.

Fuel Safety Fuel is highly flammable — store it safely away from heat and light sources, and keep it out of reach of children. Never refuel while the engine is running or hot, and never smoke when handling fuel. Clean up any fuel spills immediately, and always move at least 10 metres away from the refuelling area before starting the engine. If fuel spills on clothing, change before starting the machine.

Work Area Preparation Thoroughly inspect the area before mowing and remove rocks, wire, debris, or any object that could be thrown by the cutting blade. Only operate in daylight or under good lighting conditions. Keep bystanders, children, and animals well clear of the work area, and have another adult supervise any children nearby.

Slope & Terrain Awareness The machine is rated for slopes up to 35 degrees. Exercise extreme caution near ravines, ditches, and embankments where the machine could tip over. The main causes of loss of control on slopes are insufficient adhesion, excessive speed, gradients above 30 degrees, and inattention to the terrain. The anti-overturn sensor will cut the engine and blade if the machine exceeds 45 degrees.

Operating Behaviour Maintain full concentration at all times when operating remotely — never allow yourself to be distracted. Keep hands and feet well away from the cutting attachment when starting and using the machine. Do not operate in wet or stormy conditions or on wet grass where possible, and never use the machine in environments with flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Do not start or run the machine in enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide risk.

Avoiding Burns & Fire Do not touch engine components during or shortly after use as they will be hot. Never leave the machine stationary in tall grass while the engine is running, as this creates a fire hazard.

Maintenance Safety All maintenance must be carried out with the machine completely switched off, and protective gloves must be worn to avoid accidental blade injuries. Do not operate the machine with worn or damaged parts — replace them promptly. Check regularly for oil or fuel leaks. Clean grass and debris from the blade and machine body after every use, and change the engine oil weekly under heavy use. Only use 10W-40 engine oil.

Repairs & Batteries Always have the machine repaired by a professional service provider using approved parts. A damaged battery must only be repaired by the manufacturer or an authorised service agent — never attempt to repair it yourself.
