BCS Power Scythes - A Summer Speciality!

The summer is the time that Power Scythes prove their worth, as they will cut back overgrown vegetation with the minimum amout of effort. Our article below discusses how to choose a model that suits your requirements.

With four models in the BCS Crusader Power Scythe Range, at first glance it can be difficult to know which machine is most suitable for you.

However the issues to consider however can be broken down into three basic components, Size, Speed and Snags.

Size

How large is the area that you have to cut and maintain? The table below provides an indication of the size of land that each machine is most suitable for.

Power_Scythe_Scene

Size of land        Machine
Under 1 acre             615
1-2 acres                  615L
2-4 acres                  615SL
4+ acres                   630

Speed

The four Crusader machines all have a different selection of gear speeds. This is for two reasons, the first relates to the variety of vegetation that people need to control. Thick dense vegetation is best cut using a slow speed whilst large areas of grassland can be mowed in a faster gear at a brisk walking pace. The second reason for having gears is that you may have to "drive" your machine from its storage location to where it is being worked and so faster "travel" speeds allow you to get where you need to be in the quickest possible time.

Machine        Gears           Working Speeds (kph)
615                1F + 1R           1st - 2.68
615L              2F + 2R           1st - 2.56  2nd - 3.77
615SL            2F + 2R           1st - 2.56  2nd - 3.77
630                4F + 3R           1st - 1.14  2nd - 2.63  3rd - 3.88  4th - 12.8

Snags

The final component to consider is what size cutting width you will need? As a starting point we generally recommend that going for the widest cut width possible enables you to get your job done in the quickest possible time. But you should take time to consider whether you have any obstacles that may make it beneficial to select a smaller cutting width that could make your work that bit easier. This could range from a narrow gate to closely planted trees or even the size of the space in which the machine is to be kept.

By evaluating your requirements with respect to SIZE, SPEED and SNAGS it is possible to identify which Power Scythe is most suitable for your needs.

We hope this information will help you focus on the topics to consider when choosing a Power Scythe however should you wish to discuss your individual requirements please do not hesitate to contact our Sales Team on  01444 460200.
