Aerating | Advice

There are two main reasons to aerate your lawn.

1. REMOVE SUB-SURFACE THATCH

If your lawn has an excess of thatch or heavy organic matter, it will starve the roots from essential water and nutrients.

2. RELIEVE COMPACTION

Areas of your lawn may have become compacted, preventing proper circulation of air, water and nutrients within the soil, all key to a healthy lawn.

Spike or Corers

If you have an excess of deep lying thatch in your lawn then using the corers will be essential. They will remove plugs of thatch and soil from your lawn allowing room for the grass roots to grow, as well as letting oxygen, water and nutrients gain access to the root system.

If your problem is one of soil compaction or you are just looking to allow for improved surface drainage in your lawn then spiking your lawn will be all that is required.

Key Benefits are:

  • Improved air access to the roots and soil
  • Organic fertilisers and nutrients gain access to the root system
  • Water can soak into the soil and reach the root system
  • Tight compacted soil is loosened up allowing the root system to grow
  • Helps to break up thatch allowing the root system to grow
